Frequently Asked Questions

What is TrainSafe, and what is its mission?

TrainSafe is dedicated to creating a safe range and training environment for all and is passionate about preventing tragedies. The TrainSafe program is elevating the standard of care for the firearms industry with a laser-focus on identifying and addressing risk of harm to oneself or others before horrific situations have the chance of taking place. TrainSafe is not a “background check” and is not affiliated with any government body or law enforcement entity in any way. TrainSafe is a private program that quickly analyzes immediate physical risks in a non-intrusive fashion. We equip businesses with the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions in potential crisis situations, ultimately saving lives and livelihoods alike.

Why does TrainSafe believe in enhancing the process for gun rentals and trainings?

By using TrainSafe, ranges and training facilities are setting a safe and secure environment in their facilities, ensuring the people in every bay or class aren’t there with bad intentions. While horrific, violent events taking place at ranges and training facilities are rare, they have a disproportionate and monumental impact on a business, community, and the industry at-large. In today's environment, safeguarding your business from legal challenges is essential – which is why waivers are required for all customers. TrainSafe builds off this model and strengthens your ability to protect your business against harm and litigation. Informed decision-making is key to navigating the complexities of the firearms industry and by harnessing the power of data, businesses can make transactional decisions with confidence.

How does TrainSafe’s system work?

TrainSafe’s system involves a more comprehensive evaluation of an applicant's risk of immediate violence at the point-of-purchase, registration/application, or rental. Data is sourced from multiple public, open-source platforms. This includes criminal history and public social media indicators for malicious, indefensible declarations of intent to commit self or external harm. Once requested by a business, a consumer receives a text to complete their TrainSafe check. The consumer confirms their identity, processes their check, and is shown results privately on their own personal device. The consumer then must accept the result for it to pass on to the requesting business. The business receives a rating of Green, Orange, or Red as guidance for proceeding with the transaction, and is then free to make its own decision. Consumers may also appeal their results with TrainSafe directly. Once the report is finished and the transaction completed, the data is purged from TrainSafe’s live systems. TrainSafe does not keep, persistently monitor, or sell individual consumer data.

Is TrainSafe part of the government?

No, TrainSafe is a private solution to a public problem. TrainSafe works to protect the inalienable right of the American people to keep and bear arms and ensure it shall not be infringed.

Is TrainSafe a proponent of the Second Amendment?

Yes, TrainSafe RESPECTS the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and constitutionally adjudicated Local, State, and Federal firearms laws, while simultaneously respecting the privacy, dignity, and due process of all potential clients and customers in accordance with applicable laws and privacy standards. Living safely in America and owning firearms are both rights of the American people which shall not be infringed.

Are bad actors really possible to detect in advance?

Yes. It is quite shocking to learn how frequently bad actors, who by large are not champions of the Second Amendment, openly declare malintent on digital and social channels prior to going to a shooting range, taking a class, or making a retail firearms purchase. The current processes simply do not warn a well-intended American business if this is the case. In addition, a significant majority of folks who do bad things on shooting ranges, at training facilities, or after purchasing a weapon are known by law enforcement in advance. They often have a multitude of arrest/booking records and are on the radar of law enforcement. Studies show that as much as 70% of bad actors and mass shooters fit one or both of these criteria. Just looking at these focused, data-driven, and publicly-available items empowers a business to make an informed decision on a transaction, and equates to an extremely impactful reduction in the risk of loss of life, litigation, and irreparable financial harm.
